Anodes “Zincs”

Sacrificial anodes "zincs" are inspected during every hull cleaning. Our crews carry a full inventory of anodes on hand to ensure a vessel is never left unprotected.

What are Anodes?

While commonly referred to simply as “zincs,” sacrificial anodes are in fact available in several different alloys. Alloys include: aluminum, magnesium and zinc, although the latter is the most common.  Anodes work to protect a vessel’s metal hardware from stray current and electrolysis damage in any marine setting.  Depending on a vessel’s bonding system, and the levels of stray current around the vessel, anode life varies greatly.  In situations where there are large levels of stray current around a vessel, anodes can last a matter of weeks.  Anodes on a vessel with little to no stray current, and a good bonding system, can last up to 1 year or even longer.

We maintain a compliment of the most common anodes “zincs” onboard our vehicles. We replace anodes when they are around 50% degradation. Our anodes are priced at MSRP, plus our install fee. The install fee covers removing the old anode, cleaning the area, inspecting the area, and installing the new anode. Upon completion of any anode service(s), we take the old anodes away for disposal. Specialty or rare anodes are stocked at our head office. In the event a vessel requires a specialty anode that is not onboard our trucks, it will be sent out and installed on or around the next service.

Pricing

  • $20.00 per anode: This price will cover smaller shaft, bullet, propeller, trim tab, rudder, and thruster anodes.
  • $30.00 per anode: This price will cover larger shaft, bullet, propeller, trim tab, rudder, and thruster anodes.
  • $40.00 per anode: This price covers all conventional plate anodes that are attached by thru-hull bolts to a vessel’s hull.

Anode FAQ

All anode installations include removing the old anode, cleaning the area, inspecting the area, and installing the new anode. Upon completion of any anode service(s), we take the old anodes away for disposal.
Sail drives, feathering/folding propellers, I/Os, and jet drive anodes are common exceptions to our regular install fees. All of these drives and operating systems require additional time and labor to service anodes depending on the specific model and configuration.
